Back in Jersey

We all made it back to NJ safe and sound.  In the next few weeks we will be concentrating on the meetings, contacts, problems, and other events encountered during our trip.  For this trip we spread out over the island with our film crew and were able to cover twice as much ground.  Filming went great but there is so much more to see.  We had numerous interviews with people from all segments of the population.

Members of our group were heartbroken by the shelter they visited in Arecibo.  Conditions there were described as “concentration-camp style.”  On the flip side we saw a shelter in Guaynabo that, even though housed in an old structure, the caring, warmth, devotion and commitment in the staff and volunteers permeated the whole building.  Our friend, Maritza Rodriguez is the Executive Director and in the year that she has been there has made the old facility bright and cheery.  While we were visiting lots of children were scattered about–they were part of their summer camp program.  2 cats were adopted while we were there, and lots of visitors were on the premises to see the 80 dogs and cats up for adoption.

That is always the case with our visits to Puerto Rico.  We see the best and the worst in the animal world.

Save a Sato

Wednesday

Today we added sato number 9 to our number of rescues.
we found “Stevie” at Save a Sato shaking and drooling in a crate. He was dumped on Gloria’s doorstep last night. Holding him for a while seemed to calm him down a bit. Amazingly he tested negative for heart worm, lepto, and ehrlichia. Seems to be about 1 to 2 years old and healthy. Once he is neutered and given his 2nd distemper shot in 2 weeks he will fly up to New Jersey for adoption.
Here is Stevie with Ellen at Save a Sato.
